Public bug reported:

I got random freezes while using the ubuntu 9.10 in a new machine.
The kernel version I am using is the following: 2.6.31-15 generic
It ocurrs both with and without the X running. I have also tried the fglrx
driver and the standard ati/vesa driver.
I have tested if the bug is reproducible under some circumstance, and it is, at
least in my machine.
I have tested it in safe-mode (single-user root).
For instance, for a C++ project (3 min compilation time) if I execute, the
following:

for ((i=1;i<100;++i)); do make clean; make ; done

The machine gets frozen.

Finally it seems is a kernel problem:
The error I get is this in the screen before the hung:
   [1162.312545] general protection fault: 0000 [#1] SMP

The logs at /var/logs are not updated with any info at the freezing
point

MotherBoard: P5QL
