when i copy/move a large file (more that 1GB) or use any program that
uses a the hard drive at maximum speed i suddenly get a huge cpu load. i
ksysguard displays an icrease from 2% to 48%. this is a quad core 3.0Ghz
phenom, and hard disk access itself should use barely any cpu power. it
also isn't a ksysguard bug - the cpu actually heats up. the strange
thing is that i can't find any process that's using the cpu that much,
but something is. the Xorg power consumption goes from 0-1% to about 4%
but what about the other 46. this all is happening on kubuntu karmic,
which i just updated. i't been happening ever since jaunty (i don't know
about before). in jaunty it was even worse, because the cpu use was 100%
and actually making the gui unusable and sometimes even themouse
pointer! this isn't the case anymore, but 46% is still a waste. i've
tsted this on multiple computers and always got the same results.
another interesting point is that the cpu waste scales with the cpu
speed. so on my old computer and laptop it's also around 40-50%.
