I'm glad you got this working and I am closing the bug because it is now
working.  In regards to how to learn commands I actually found this in
the man (manual) of sudo:

       To make a usage listing of the directories in the /home parti‐
       tion.  Note that this runs the commands in a sub-shell to make
       the cd and file redirection work.

        $ sudo sh -c "cd /home ; du -s * | sort -rn > USAGE"

Notice that the '-c' and 'sh' portion are necessary because we want to
redirect the output of echo.  Please feel free to submit any other bugs
you might find.
