Martin, I am sorry for your troubles during this last update. I am
currently pushing to make sure that the update-manager fails much more
gracefully in the upcoming LTS. The process of upgrading over the
internet is still a relatively new method compared to doing upgrades via
a CD. Personally, I prefer doing clean installs over upgrades.
I do hope you would still be willing to try out Lucid Lynx when it comes
out in 2010.
Because you can no longer access the logs from that upgrade, I will be
marking this bug report as invalid.
