I experience the same problem: music player (rhythmbox/exaile) stops producing sound randomly (or at heavy cpu load, like aptitude post installation process), although it plays it normally (the progress slider is moving etc.). By that time pulseaudio process jumps to 100% cpu. Daemonizing pulseaudio does not change anything.
And here's the funny part: on Audacious2 there's no problem.
