I'm sorry not to reply in time. I'm running the Breezy release of Ubuntu with the kernel of 2.6.12-10-386. Your impression is right. I can mount the CDROM via /dev/hdc smoothly. But the bogus device /dev/hdd doesn't work at all. I found this bug the first time I boot the system after substituting my CDROM. When the boot message reads "Starting Hardware Abstraction Layer", the system halts and begins to read the floopy with no stop. So as to boot successfully I stop the HAL daemon manually. I think all these problems are related to my new CDROM. Because the old one works smoothly and have no errors.
I had asked for help on the Ubuntu Forum, but no one replied. I would appreciate your suggestions. Thanks a lot. keyi -- Ubuntu detects a bogus CD-ROM device https://launchpad.net/bugs/80989 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
