Yep, that was intentionally the resolution of this bug - instead of hanging in the middle of the login process, pulseaudio now gives up.
It's certainly not the perfect solution, but it's better than not being able to login. I'm not sure whether or not we can expect a better fix from pulseaudio upstream.
