I had the same -no sound with any app, after upgrading from 9.04 to 9.10.
Got it working by going to System, Preferences, Sound; and on the Output tab of
the Sound Preferences window, slid the Balance control off centre and back.
Possibly any other adjustment would have brought the sound to life as well.
-When in doubt, fiddle with things. Sometimes you get lucky.

Streamtuner/Audacious is now busted, but that is another (known) bug.
I find I can get Audacious playing the stream selected in Streamtuner by
blindly clicking on the Play button in Audacious, after Streamtuner has
presumably set it up, then segfaulted. (I have to manually open Audacious.)
