I think I have the same problem.
I tried to get a stack trace, but dbg claims that the program has exited
normally when it crashes.

I think it might have something to do with packages that are kept back (
I don't know the right expression, I have the German version of apt).

Here is the output of apt-get upgrade that causes kpackagekit to crash
(reproducibly):

#sudo apt-get upgrade
Paketlisten werden gelesen... Fertig
Abhängigkeitsbaum wird aufgebaut
Lese Status-Informationen ein... Fertig
Die folgenden Pakete sind zurückgehalten worden:
  bind9-host dnsutils libbind9-50 libdns50 libisc50 libisccc50 libisccfg50
liblwres50
Die folgenden Pakete werden aktualisiert:
  devicekit-disks
1 aktualisiert, 0 neu installiert, 0 zu entfernen und 8 nicht aktualisiert.
Es müssen 166kB an Archiven heruntergeladen werden.
Nach dieser Operation werden 0B Plattenplatz zusätzlich benutzt.

This means the packages are not updates, unless I use apt-get dist-
upgrade.

Hope that helps.
