  Binary package hint: gdm
  
  Applied Dec. 7/8 updates (see attached dpkg.log.part)
  Restarted into Windows.
  Restarted into Linux.
  After throb screen (white Ubuntu logo), gdm never loaded, system went into 
text-mode.
  Logged in & restarted using `shutdown -hr now`.
  After throb screen (white Ubuntu logo), gdm never loaded, system went into 
text-mode.
  Logged in & was going through logs.
  Display went black, keyboard was unresponsive - required hard reset.
  Restarted into recovery mode - no problems after ~20mins.
  From recovery menu I resumed normal boot - went into text-mode again.
  I tried a `sudo gdm`, but it gave me some error about :0.22 not having 
privileges.
  Restarted into Windows.
  Restarted into Linux -15 kernel. gdm/login went flawlessly.
- Restarted into Linux -16 kernel (newest/defualt). gdm/login went flawlessly.
+ Restarted into Linux -16 kernel (newest/default). gdm/login went flawlessly.
  
  Also attached is the syslog data from the times that the gui would not
  load. 09:37:44 [ 2.****] entires seem to be relevant...
  
  As described, everything seems to be fine now...just very interesting
  that booting a different kernel & then the default would fix a
  graphics(?) problem.
  
  I am using the radeon driver with a Radeon 9550 (RV350); and, I am using
  "options radeon modeset=1" via a file under the /etc/modprobe.d/
  directory.
