I would also like to fix the bug about missing icons in battery notifications (regression caused by some xubuntu-specific patch [xubuntu-use-notification-icons.patch], it's a one-liner, see https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/xfce4-power- manager_0.8.4.2-1ubuntu1_0.8.4.2-1ubuntu2.diff.gz).
