This bug appeared while I was trying to enable native resolution console
(1440x900, is visible in BIOS - see hwinfo file) on my laptop with nvidia
graphics (I'm using a proprietary driver).
On a fresh install of karmic 64-bit version (grub2 is installed) and the
console works as I wanted it to work, just the splash parameter in the kernel
line needs to be deleted. In fact, while the parameter is there, the boot also
goes as it should be (along with the native resolution) but then all the ttyX
consoles are blank (although they work). Somewhere I've found that usplash can
be debugged using this command:
sudo strace usplash -c &> error
so I've done this, but I don't see any suspicious behaviour (file
attached).
I needed to add "gfxpayload=keep" to the /etc/grub.d/10_linux file, in
order to make native resolution work (see the grub.cfg file).
the rest is in the files attached.
I think that having usplash and a working console in native resolution
shouldn't create such a problem, that's why I submitted this bug.
