Public bug reported:

Kubuntu Feisty (Latest) does not automatically detect the Geforce Go
7950 GTX SLI graphics cards, despite the fact that the nv driver
supports them (as does nvidia-glx). It does not even configure the VESA
driver. The chief problem seems to be that it cannot work out which of
the two cards actually controls the screen, and defaults to the one that
doesn't. When running the X configuration tool it is unable to
automatically detect the card(s).

The graphical installer doesn't work / you canne boot the OS from the
LiveCD. You have to install the operating system from the alternate
install CD and then manually edit xorg.conf at the prompt, something
which new Linux users should not have to do!?

When the system starts up, there is a message after 'Starting up...'
which says that memory cannot be allocated to the devices 3:0:0 and
4:0:0 (which correspond to the BusID's of the two cards).

Installing the nvidia-glx driver, enabling nvidia in the xorg.conf file,
and installing the kernel restricted modules is the optimum solution,
since this driver understands the SLI, but the nv driver seems to work
aswell, at least in so far as using the graphics card plugged into the
screen as a display device. You need to select the right BusID in the
xorg.conf file though.

Fedora Core 6 automatically detects the cards and installs the nv
driver, and this is something that Ubuntu should also do.
