Thanks for your interest in fixing this bug. In the mean time, I did a successfull upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10, on the same hardware PC. So whatever caused the error in 8.04 has been fixed, or I now perhaps do not have the same packages/libraries combination that may have caused it installed.
