Did you get errors during the distribution upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10? Please
add the log files from '/var/log/dist-upgrade/'
to this bug report as attachments?
What happens when you run the following commands on a terminal:
sudo /etc/init.d/cups status
sudo /etc/init.d/cups restart
lsb_release -a
