I tested the your suggested kernel version, because possible urgent, and not would like rest you. The change is following: Lossed the network-manager wireless enable/disable setting. If I right click the network manager panel icon, I see only auto eth0 menu item, connection information menu item, and edit connections menu item. ifconfig wlan0 shows the hardware information, independent the hardware switch toggle.
I tryed following tests: 1. Launched the machine with turned on hardware switch, not help, impossible choose enable/disable the wan controller with Networkmanager. 2. I launch my machine with turned off wlan controller switch, and after the boot is completed, turned on the hardware switch. Nothing changed, impossible enable/disable the hardware switch. The ideal method is following, with possible this is not work my machine: When the switch is turned on, need automatical loading the need wireless card module (I think rtl8187 but I am not sure what the correct module name my card with this kernel version). If the switch is turned off, need remove the module (for example rtl8187). For example, my Jaunty system I always remove manual the rtl8187 module if I switched off the hardware switch with sudo rmmod rtl8187 command. But if I turn on the switch, need manual loading again the rtl8187 module with sudo modprobe rtl8187 command.
