Hi Aapo,
as you probably noticed the acx driver was updated the last time in 2008
and it was removed from the Ubuntu kernel for just this reason. There is
nobody actively maintaining it and it was also rejected to be taken into
the staging drivers in Linux as the code was not kept up to date with
the current kernel development. Also, as you see in your case it does
not play well in the normal desktop environment.
So, unfortunately there is no way to take this driver back in its
current state. On the other hand you might see this as your chance to
step up and get this driver being maintained by you. One option, beside
of cleaning up the driver and submitting it to the Linux kernel mailing-
list, would be to start your own DKMS package (which you could provide
to others on your PPA. I would suggest to have a look at the bcmwl-
kernel-source package which does the same for the closed-source Broadcom
driver.
I hope this helps and sorry again that we cannot include the driver as
it is.
