I had the same problem but didn't rename my directory - I deleted it and then reconnected to ubuntu one and the problem was resolved - it seems that a crash can leave the local files in an unusable state - suggest that ubuntu one is modifed to try deleting the directory on the event of a number (perhaps 10) failed connect attempts. Or make it a menu option to clear local files.
