I moved ~/.mozilla out of the way and the broblem has gone away. (But I loose all saved state like beekmarks)
There is something I must have in my ~/.mozilla on two out of three computers. Or it may that the two that do not work are not i386. One is 64-bit and the other is a Transmeta (which is supposed to emulate intel). Who knows?
