Since the link says:

I've installed totem-dbg; gdb was already installed.
(I didn't like the idea to add lots of repositories for dbgs.)
But the terminal output said:
Reading symbols from /usr/bin/totem...Reading symbols from 
/usr/lib/debug/usr/bin/totem...done.
(no debugging symbols found)...done.

When the window greyed out and interface was unresponsive I've pressed
ctrl+c, as advised in Backtrace.
