I assumed it was a hardware problem because when I adjusted the lens cap
the camera started working again. However, I agree the picture quality
is much worse than it used to be. With Skype I found a fix in some web
site, can't remember where. You have to type
export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so
skype &
And the video works. However, the image quality is bad.
