In Ubuntu Karmic 9.10, sound for many people, like me, just doesn't
work, neither through Analog, USB, or digital. It would work after an
install of Linux, but after some updates it'll just not work, no audio
ever from any speakers. No, it is not on mute and it may be on highest
volume. This bug has most likely been caused by one of the updates from
the update manager, but I can't tell which. No other way to explain how
to reproduce the problem, except install updates through the update
manager.
