Basically plymouth has VT issues and can't run on vt7 after all.

We're trying to get that fixed upstream atm

** Changed in: plymouth (Ubuntu Lucid)
       Status: Incomplete => Triaged

** Summary changed:

- on shutdown from X, splash screen is corrupted, partially overlaid on console
messages
+ plymouth doesn't work well when run from VT7

** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #25749
   https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25749

** Also affects: plymouth via
   https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25749
   Importance: Unknown
       Status: Unknown

** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: plymouth
+ There are various issues with plymouth running on VT7:

- When shutting down from X, the splash screen is corrupted; only part of
- the Ubuntu logo is displayed, and it's rendered on top of a screen full
- of boot-time console messages. When shutting down from the console, I
- don't appear to have this problem.
+ - VT switching doesn't work as you'd expect; it behaves as if plymouth
+ is both on VT1 and VT7, and you can get yourself in a situation where
+ you can't get back

- I'm using the intel X driver with KMS on an i945GM chip.
+ - console messages can appear over top of plymouth

- ProblemType: Bug
- Architecture: amd64
- Date: Mon Dec 14 16:22:56 2009
- DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04
- Package: plymouth 0.8.0~-5
- ProcEnviron:
- PATH=(custom, user)
- LANG=en_US.UTF-8
- SHELL=/bin/bash
- ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-8.12-generic
- SourcePackage: plymouth
- Tags: lucid
- Uname: Linux 2.6.32-8-generic x86_64
+ - when starting X, the transition may not work and the screen clears or
+ is corrupted
+
+ - when quitting X, the previous framebuffer contents might not be
+ available, or might be mixed in with console messages
