I don't expect this makes much difference but I'd just like to express
my agreement with the general consensus here.

I certainly don't consider myself a developer, I'd only like to output
of a one-line script to an osd. I have been using gmessage but thought
it would be nicer to have it properly integrated. Without being able to
control timing and stacking, however, this is impossible. Am I
understanding correctly in thinking that this is not possible with bash,
will not be possible with bash and that I would have to learn a new
scripting language?
