Public bug reported:

The microphone does not work. It not has a input selector in the input
tab into Sound Preferences. This Ubuntu version does not work properly
with the VIA VT1708B-CE, it recognizes the codec as VT1708B 8-Ch. which
is wrong, it has to be a problem related to ALSA, because OpenSUSE 11.2
has the same problem with this card.

Release 9.10

libasound2 1.0.20-3ubuntu6
alsa-base 1.0.20+dfsg-1ubuntu5
alsa-utils 1.0.20-2ubuntu6

The ALSA 1.0.22 does not solve the issue, after upgrading ALSA manually,
the system stops to recognize this card in particular, to verify that, I
installed a SB Live and the system recognized it perfectly while it does
not recognizes the VIA VT1708B-CE.
