I have been able to trace this to gksu. Every time gksu is invoked, the
CPU goes into a spin caused by mousetweaks. Not sure whats the relation
here though. If I  kill -9 mousetweaks, everything is restored to normal
and gksu no longer hangs.

kernel: 2.6.31-14-generic
mousetweaks ver: 2.28.1-0ubuntu1
