Hello Alexander, I encountered the same issue, but finally I found it isn't a bug. The root cause is that the software which I used to create MD5-value is not so good. After that I turned to other software (Cygwin and md5summer), then I got what I want. The MD5SUM is identical with the file from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/9.10/release/
So I suggest you to try for this.
