Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

When you add a new theme with gnome-appearance-properties, it's not taken into
account by the apps you run as root.
It would be better if the root user had access to every users's themes by
default.

To fix it I had to make a symlink:

sudo ln -s ~/.themes /root
sudo ln -s ~/.icons /root

** Affects: meta-gnome2 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
