Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: policykit
After upgrade to Karmic, I can no longer shutdown or restart from the
gnome session menu. When chosing shutdown, the system logs out, but
comes back to the gnome login screen.
There is a WARNING/ERROR in /var/log/daemon.log:
Dec 29 12:59:39 purple gnome-session[1841]: WARNING: Unable to stop
system: Not privileged for action:
org.freedesktop.consolekit.system.stop no
I tried changing lines in the config files:
/usr/local/share/PolicyKit/policy/org.freedesktop.consolekit.policy
and
/usr/share/PolicyKit/policy/org.freedesktop.policykit.policy
Both had:
<action id="org.freedesktop.consolekit.system.stop">
<description>Stop the system</description>
<message>System policy prevents stopping the system</message>
<defaults>
<allow_inactive>no</allow_inactive>
<allow_active>yes</allow_active>
</defaults>
</action>
but changes <allow_inactive> to 'yes' does not fix the problem.
** Affects: policykit (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
