Reinhard, I agree that there are quite some changes between the releases, but this is due to the fact that strigi is still "beta technology" and in heavy development. It is targeted for KDE4 and is primarily using KDE3 users for test base.
Last version was released for debian in January and we could have probably request sync before the UVF, I just did not pay enough attention to universe as I head feature goals to complete for main before FF. My only concern with not going with latest version is that we will probably not be able to get much support from upstream for our version.
