finished recommended update 31/12/2009, now firefox will not open?

4. Firefox did not open (or was busy), clicked the icon, wheel spun,
notification on the bottom of the screen that Firefox was opening, more
spinning, then the wheel went out, no notification at the bottom, no Firefox
