This bug also affected myself too. A new Ubuntu user installed Ubuntu remix on an new asus eee pc and couldn't install any programs in the software center and they brought it to me to fix.
Luckly you can to to synaptic package manager, refresh, then they show up but a new user (and myself at first) would not know how to get this to work. A "Refresh" button at the top of the software center screen would help.
