Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

Running Update Manager results in a dialog box saying:

Could not initialize the package information

An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package
information.

Please report this buck against the 'update-manager' package and include
the following error message:

'E: Opening /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list - ifstream::ifstream
(13: Permission denied), E:The list of sources could not be read.'

Yesterday I installed 9.10. Today the bug seemed to show up after I ran the
command:

sudo wget --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list
http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/$(lsb_release -cs).list && sudo
apt-get --quiet update && sudo apt-get --yes --quiet --allow-
unauthenticated install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get --quiet update

which I got from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu

** Affects: update-manager (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
