+ Edit: In /etc/apt/sources.list.d there were two files, medibuntu.list
+ and medibuntu.list.save whose permissions were -rw-------.  I did sudo
+ chmod 644 to make them -rw-r--r--.  Now Update Manager seems to run OK.
