If you have a supported card then you should be able to use the NVidia X
Server Configuration Utility to configure your display.   If it is not
installed then try:

sudo apt-get install nvidia-settings

It should show up in your application list with an icon saying "NVidia X
Server Settings".   I cannot remember if I had to enable restricted
drivers but you may also want to try that.   If you are not sure how
then let me know if you are using GNome or KDE and i'll do what I can to
help.
