Using a Treo 650 on 9.10 64-bit.  I also had crashing upon hitting hotsync on 
the Treo.  Using
synaptic to uninstall modemmanger resolved the problem and I can now sync with 
jpilot (must
hit hotsync in jpilot first, then on Treo).  [Had to reboot after modemmanager 
uninstall.]
The only problem is that something seems to have removed the categories on my 
address
book, but I am unsure if that is jpilot or one of the other attempt I made 
earlier.
