On start of Ubuntu Lucid 2.6.32-9, the computer hangs (if not started in
rescue mode, from where the apport information was collected). My screen
is blank with a non-blinking cursor in the upper left corner. It hangs
approximately where it should have switched to the gdm login screen.

2.6.32-7 does not show this problem, but (approx) one time out of five
it says that my screen could not be detected properly and asks me if I
want to run Ubuntu in low-graphics mode, reconfigure graphics, etc.

I'm currently running linux-
image-2.6.33-999-generic_2.6.33-999.201001031003_amd64.deb from the
kernel mainline builds, which do not show this problem.
