I updated the kernel to 2.6.32.2 using Ubuntu (mainline) Generic .deb files here:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.32.2/ I am now able to successfully write to DVD and CD using Brasero, Gnomebaker or XFBurn. Still appear to get the same errors in the dmesg log when a blank DVD is inserted, but the DVD burns fine: [ 362.084391] cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!
