I have the same problem with a fresh installation of Karmic. Going to system -> preferences-> default printer i retrive the error message "Cups scheduler is not running", so I can't install any printer, as a result I can't print anything. Searching on internet, I found same solutions, and all seems to be linked to 'apparmor'. As specifyed on here: http://linux.aldeby.org/no-more-printers-cups-not-running.html the problem may be a bug in apparmor, probably: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/392337 but I don't know if is this bug the cause of the problem in 'cups'.
