I reinstalled ubuntu and didn't update any package be sure there wasn't any packet update which messed the driver. After some days again the same problem, now I realized it is due to conflict with pppoe automatic start I have to use with the wireless modem at office (it needs pppoe authentication). I also noticed it happens when: pppd starts connecting at boot, the acerwmi is loaded after pppd and the ath5k is actually the driver which starts filling the cpu. an rmmod ath5k stops the hanging (and the wirelss as well obsiously), also preventing ppp connections starting at boot prevents the hanging.
