I ran into a similar issue after attempting to set up a new Microsoft
LCS/OCS account. I don't know the exact configuration settings I put
for the account to cause it, but who cares.

Pidgin would immediately crash with the segment fault on launch. Since I
knew I was messing with that account I edited the ~/.purple/accounts.xml
file and changed the auto login setting for that account to 0. This
allowed me to start pidgin without an issue and then reconfigure the
account correctly.

Others may want to try the same thing, perhaps disable the auto-login
for all accounts if you don't know which might be causing it.

Change the auto-login to 0 instead of 1:

<setting name='auto-login' type='bool'>0</setting>
