I have the same issues raised in point 2 in Ubuntu 9.10, using a Huawei
E169 USB stick.

I use Three Prepaid in Australia and Network Manager always resets the
password back to "a" once I exit the options. When I connect, I receive
a connection established message and am unable to access the internet.

I am able to work around this in NM by removing the connection, adding a
new connection using the wizard (all other settings in the wizard are
correct), deleting the username and password in the settings, and then
connecting normally. Sometimes this takes several attempts to function,
I do not know why (running a clean install). I must also repeat this
process every time I want to connect.
