Richard, the space is meant to accommodate the triangular tree icons that you have next to directory entries. They are relevant even when "Size" is the first column (see the attached screenshot that demonstrates it). And because the "size" column is right-aligned, it ends up being truncated on the left if it's too narrow.
In essence the problem stems from the fact that the tree icons are really designed to work well with left-aligned data like the "name" column. I'm not sure what the behaviour should be when the first column is a right-aligned column such as "size" but if you have ideas as to what the behaviour should be in this case, I'm happy to forward the bug upstream. ** Attachment added: "Screenshot showing space used by triangular tree icons for directories" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/37510015/Screenshot-Downloads%20%E2%80%94%20File%20Browser.png ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- Size column as first column has left padded space https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/493165 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
