I am running Ubuntu Karmic Koala (9.10) and am seeing this issue. I currently have my screen saver set to Drempels but I think I have seen this issue with other screensavers. I usually keep my screensaver set to random. It is set to start after 40 minutes. I use my computer constantly during the day, so the screeensaver rarely starts up then. I usually see this issue when I come in the next morning.
I don't recall seeing this issue when I first upgraded to 9.10. I believe it started about a week ago after I had added some updates.
