Good.  Yes, I don't need the plugin thingie.

I found your apport-collect command and did that procedure. I think it
went correctly, except that it said I needed to approve changing
anything, but didn't seem to tell me where or how to do that, although I
vaguely remember doing something like that last time.  Would I not need
to repeat that?  Anyway, it seemed to run its course, and when it
stopped I closed the Terminal window, and am just wondering what the
next step is?

Thank you, and I await the next chapter in this exciting adventure of
recovering CD recognition, or something like that!
