Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pulseaudio
I've used 8.04 for over two years on my HP5050EO laptop without any hardware issues. I recently made a clean installation of Ubuntu 9.10 and now I sometimes hear a snapping noise that annoys me. The appearance of the snapping noise is somewhat random, but I can reproduce the issue at least with the following technique: 1. boot computer and log in 2. insert headphones in the audio out jack 3. a snapping noise is heard from the main speakers about every 10 seconds 4. after removing the headphones the snapping noise is gone At all times sound works normally and everything I play sounds ok. There is just an extra snapping noise, just like the one heard at boot when the sound card and speakers are initialized. After reading the bug report #301755 I tried running the command "start- pulseaudio-x11" and it seems to fix the issue until next reboot.
