This needs to be created as a new source package: pyxpcom since upstream
split it out from the main repository.
** Package changed: xulrunner-1.9.1 (Ubuntu) => ubuntu
** Changed in: ubuntu
Importance: Undecided => Wishlist
** Changed in: ubuntu
Status: Confirmed => New
** Summary changed:
- should build python-xpcom
+ [needs-packaging] pyxpcom
** Changed in: ubuntu
Assignee: (unassigned) => Micah Gersten (micahg)
** Description changed:
Binary package hint: xulrunner-1.9.1
- This package should build python-xpcom, like it does in Debian. Python-
- xpcom is not widely used in Ubuntu, but it is required for the emerging
- pyjamas-desktop application that is already in Debian testing. Building
- it yourself requires 3GB of disk space and takes a lot of time, while
- only a tiny piece of the result (<500kb) is needed.
+ PyXPCOM allows for communication between Python and XPCOM, such that a
+ Python application can access XPCOM objects, and XPCOM can access any
+ Python class that implements an XPCOM interface. With PyXPCOM, a
+ developer can talk to XPCOM or embed Gecko from a Python application.
+ PyXPCOM is similar to JavaXPCOM (Java-XPCOM bridge) or XPConnect
+ (JavaScript-XPCOM bridge).
- If python-xpcom still causes epiphany-browser to crash, a Conflict:
- epiphany-browser just on the python-xpcom package as is done in Debian
- seems an acceptable work around to me. This even allows people just to
- extract the python library from the package and stash it elsewhere (it
- is relocatable).
