I am having the same mouse pointer problem. I am running gnome/compiz on a Ubuntu 9.10 on an HP pavilion ze4600. Touchpad-mouse location becomes stuck in the upper left corner when switching desktops during heavy CPU/disk-access load. The keyboard and mouse clicking is not frozen. My only work around is to log out and log back in so as to restart the desktop environment. Is there an easier way to restart X without closing all the open apps?
