Having the same or similar problem, can't save birthdays in the One contact list (always reports an error). I added a birthday in on the one.ubuntu.com web site and the change saved on the web, but after launching Evolution it seems to have purged the data from the server and I cannot add any birthday from the Evolution client there either.
