I can confirm that the package:
"poppler-data"
solves my problems with viewing PDFs containing Japanese characters.
I propose for poppler-data to be a dependency of Evince since it's required to
display some PDFs.
If that's not acceptable then it should at least be a dependency of the CJK
language packs since these
users are likely to view PDFs containing CJK characters.
If the above solutions are not possible for whatever reason then Evince should
at least inform the user WHY
it can't display the fonts instead of just being quiet about it.
